Those versions are rather old! The versions I have on an FC3 box are:
nx-1.5.0-0.FC3.1
freenx-0.4.4-1.fdr.0

Sounds like an ssh issue - there's a section on debugging that in Rick's
fedoranews page linked above.

See the Wiki for how to enable logging and the location of the log files.
There won't be anything in these until the ssh connection is working though -
the server end of nx is started through the ssh connection.
