Thanks Bastian,

I did try the setup with the nomachine key too, but I got the same 
result: nxsetup reported failure when trying to connect to nxserver and 
it was still not possible to connect to the nx account using nxssh.

I checked /var/lib/nxserver/home/.ssh/authorized_keys2 and everything 
seems to be in order there (both the content of the file and permissions 
on it).
