I'm not sure, but you could check the Gnome session for Xorg on the
server and see if the path is correct in node.conf. Check also that the
FreeNX server starts it with DBUS.
I had this once when the session wasn't correctly initiated with DBUS on
debian, but I got some error-messages telling me that the DBUS daemon
wasn't started which indicated this.
