Strange can you check:

- node.conf has AGENT_EXTRA_OPTIONS_RDP="-a 16"
- nxdesktop_helper is the new version

and once you have that session running in a parallel GNOME or KDE session

that rdesktop really was started with -a 16.

Like:

$ ps aux | grep rdesktop

Because it works here.
