Yes, it is necessary.

echo $RANDOM | md5sum should give you a cookie.

In the options file of the proxy you also need to set cookie='cookie'.

Because it is used for authentication of proxy against nxagent.

And the fake cookie is also replaced through display cookie by nxproxy ...

Be sure that you also use the:

hello nxclient - Version 1.5.0

or higher, because else the old behaviour of cookies is assumed.
