This is only for keyboard layout, with the fonts it is little bit different.
Newer systems are unicode --> they have fonts in all languages, but 
older ones are probably not.
And this is the case.

NX is creating X server on client machine and it needs to have access to 
the correct fonts.
VNC is just transferring images.
