Tim and others with similar problems, I successfully ran NX for many months,
then did a apt-get upgrade on my Kanotix/Debain system and got the same
results as you.

I spends a few days on it, read through a bunch of scripts, learned a little
about PAM Authentication but in the end I was not able to connect.

Finally I installed knoppix 4.0 on a test drive I have and have no problem
connecting from windows at work to my linux box at home. So, I took the
installed FREENX that was working on my test drive and transferred all the
directories and files to my main drive with non-working FREENX and tried to
connect, but no connection was allowed and I got the same results as you.
This Leads me to think the problem is not FREENX but a change in SSH or
Xorg.

I will try upgrading both one at a time on my test drive to try to track
down what is causing the crash, sorry about the long email, but if you
really need remote access now I suggest knoppix 4.0.

When I try to connect to my FreeNX server I start to get a window but then
it closes quickly. I enabled log level 4 in my node.conf and I found this
error below. Can anyone advise how I can fix this.

NX> 1000 NXNODE - Version 1.4.0-45-SVN OS (GPL)
NX> 1001 Bye.
expect: spawn id exp7 not open
    while executing
"expect "NX> 1001 Bye.""
    (file "/usr/lib/nx/nxnode-login" line 66)
NX> 719 SMB filesystem: running
NX> 105 bye
Bye
NX> 999 Bye
NX> 1009 Session status: terminating
NX> 1006 Session status: closed
NX> 1001 Bye.

Thank you,

Tim
