Hello all,
I have this huge problem that needs resolving. Most of our pilot
developers are from India. They connect to our datacenters in the east
coast of US by first hitting our router in San Jose, California that
takes them to our east coast datacenters. The issue with that length
is high latency that cause the developers not to migrate their work from
their own desktop to a our servers in the east coast. But asking for
cushioning this problem.
Latency from Bangalore, India to San Jose is 300-320ms.
Latency from San Jose to East Coast DC is 60-80ms.
Servers are currently running RHEL 3
KDE 3.1.3
FreeNX 0.3.1 (If commercial version will solve our problem, we will sure
go for commercial. Also testing FreeNX 0.4.4RC1 and waiting for final
version to be inserted into production later.)
Developer Software used:
Eclipse 3.0x
MyEclipse
Basically Java related programming tools.
Problem: Developers report the gui interaction is slow. Some of the
java programming they do, Eclipse would assist the programmer by filling
in on how to use use a certain syntax with a "popup." I believe
developers call it "code completion." Clicking on menu sometimes
takes more than 3 seconds to show up.
User comment.

I know latency is an issue here. But is there anything else we can do
to optimize a developers interaction with the IDE? Have packets sent to
each other at smaller size? Anything to shave off some of the feeling
of user slowness experience.
Thanks for any advice you can give.
