At least you will need to kill the old session so it doesn't try to
restore it but I think you will need a 1.4 client to work with the 1.4
server. I am pretty sure nx is not backwards compatible - at least that
way (maybe a 1.4 client with a 1.5 server will work?).
If you can't find that, I have a copy of nxclient-1.4.0-92.ppc.tar.gz for
Mac that you can try. I think the nomachine site should have it but it is
probably not easy to find the old version.
Perhaps the freenx web site should offer to put up some archive versions
since nomachine folk are working hard on the new versions?
