Hi people,
I've read throught the mailing list that printing was scheduled for
freenx0.4 coming out in may. As I was badly needing printing recently, I
tried to find a way to work out printing on my local machine, and I
though I could share it with other. I'm using linux both on server and
client.
Here is the quick hack : when using a vpn connexion, I realized that by
adding a distant cups server (on my local machine) to the server's cups
server, local printers would come out on the server and could be used
for printing on the freenx server. Though, you should be aware that you
have first to change a few parameters on the cups server to allow the
distant subnetwork to access the local cups server (the default behavior
was to only accept request from the local subnetwork). I think this
method could be also used on a ssh connexion with port forwarding.
I was also wondering how developers are planning to implement printing
in the next release. Will it use cups (somehow like above)? Or will it
use pdf (print pdf on the server, transfer file, print file on client
side)? To my mind pdf is probably the most stable and universal
solution. I experienced it on a citrix server, and it resolves many
printing issues.
Thanks for the great work, freenx 0.3 really rocks.
