Hi guys,

We have a computer lab with shared home user home directory mounted on
an NFSv3 shared mount. Mounting is handled by autofs. We recenly
migrated to Kubuntu 18.04 but notices that login was impossible for
users home directory mounted on NFS. When I try I get this error.

qt5ct: using qt5ct plugin
XmbTextListToTextProperty result code -2
XmbTextListToTextProperty result code -2
XmbTextListToTextProperty result code -2
XmbTextListToTextProperty result code -2
kf5.kio.core: Refilling KProtocolInfoFactory cache in the hope to find

kf5.kservice.services: KServiceTypeTrader: serviceType "ThumbCreator"
not found
kdeinit5: Aborting. No write access to $HOME directory (/home/user).
No text-to-speech plug-ins were found.
trying to load "/usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/qt5/plugins/kf5/kio/file.so"
from "/usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/qt5/plugins/kf5/kio/file.so"
XmbTextListToTextProperty result code -2
Segmentation fault (core dumped)

The error also comes up when I try to run a kde application Kile in
particular on a non kde desktop like Gnome or Cinnamon desktop
environment. This issue affects only Kubuntu 18.04. Kubuntu computers
running 16.04 are about to login to their home directory (mounted on
the same nfs partition) just fine without any issue.

Below is the autofs mount option we use
*           -
vers=3,async,proto=tcp,port=2049,rsize=8192,wsize=8192,nolock    nfs-
server:/volume3/nfshome/&

This is the same mount option we use with Ubuntu 16.04 and have no
issue whatsoever.

A bug report on this issue was filed in ubuntu bug tracker
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/snapd/+bug/1774902

I also filed a bug report on the issue with the kde project.

https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=407855
