Hi Ludwig,

you might want to look into XDG_DATA_DIRS

I copied my ~/.local/share/kxmlgui5/dolphin/dolphinui.rc into /opt/foobar/kxmlgui5/dolphin and pointed said env variable to /opt/foobar and it picked it up.

It does seem that user preferences (ie the ones in ~/.local/share) take precedence, ie. I had to remove it for that to work but that might have been the way kxmlgui merges / updates ui xmls.
