News From the KDE Artist World
==============================
The KDE artist community has been busy recently. The winners of the
digiKam contest [http://www.kde-look.org/news/index.php?id=155] have
been announced, kde-look.org [http://www.kde-look.org] has had a major
update and the KDE logo is on a worldwide tour. Coming soon are The
First Annual Icon Marathon, a completely new and improved KDE Artist
website and introducing Kollaboration, where your art meets their code!
Read on for details.
IMPROVED KDE-LOOK AND KDE-APPS
Frank [http://dot.kde.org/1075252150/] has updated the server and
software behind KDE-Look.org [http://www.kde-look.org] and KDE-Apps.org
[http://KDE-apps.org]. The new server
[http://www.kde-look.org/news/index.php?id=173] is faster and sports
much more capacity. The new software has several improvements over the
old version. The core is completely rewritten in PHP 5 for more speed
and flexibility and a new caching system is reducing the MySQL load.
The new frontend features are:
* New content categories.
* A new content filtering system. You can now filter out wallpapers.
* A content subscription system to keep you up to date with your
favourite applications.
* Plus a lot of bugfixes and small improvements.
The new categories include:
* SVG Wallpapers
* Theme Manager
* Emoticon Themes
* Kopete Styles
* KDM Themes
* Howto Documents
* KDE Everywhere

They submitted the bulk of the new Superimpose Templates
[http://extragear.kde.org/apps/digikamimageplugins/superimpose.png] that
will make creating images with digiKam even more fun! Thanks goes out to
all who were involved. digiKam is still accepting Superimpose Templates
for their next release, please e-mail your images to the digiKam
mailing-list
[http://lists.sourceforge.net/lists/listinfo/digikam-users]. For a

ICON MARATHON
Have you ever wanted to see your artwork in the official KDE? Now
here is your chance with The First Annual KDE Icon Marathon! At the
request of the Appeal project [http://aseigo.bddf.ca/cms/1134] the
marathon is now scheduled for May. The challenge will soon go out to all
artists to make as many new KDE icons as possible in a two month period.
As a side note our contests have attracted some pretty generous
sponsors, which means juicy prizes!
Special note to KDE developers: this is the time to look over your
apps and see if you have any missing icons. Please email your icon
requests to the kde-artists mailing list
[http://mail.kde.org/mailman/listinfo/kde-artists] and include as much
detail as possible.
The marathon will take place on the new KDE Artists website which
will be debuting very soon. This will also mark the roll-out of
Kollaboration where your art meets their code! If you have ever wanted
to see your window decoration or other art work in a working application
Kalloboration will help that and more. This all started last year with
a discussion on KDE-Look which lead to Theobroma and landy's
Kollaboration proposal
[http://theobromas.blogspot.com/2005/01/kollaboration.html] to the KDE
community at large. We have all worked very hard to bring this new
concept to life. Looking out for Kollaboration on the new KDE Artists
website.
KDE LOGO WORLDWIDE
Last but not least our new KDE logo
[http://www.kde.org/stuff/clipart/] is going on a voyage around the
world. Visit KDE Everywhere
[http://www.kde-look.org/index.php?xcontentmode=44] to see its travel
pictures and add your own.
