I have reverted this patch now. 

It's coloring a bit outside the lines of what the patch collection is about 
since this bug also exists upstream and it hasn't been fixed there yet, but 
this is quite pressing and it may not even be fixed upstream since it's been 
broken for a year and noone found it so they may not care enough at this 
point.
