Distributions and upstream KDE software projects - communication

Hello,
as this is the distro outreach list, I thought this is relevant. I casually
learnt that Digikam was adding a new dependency through a G+ post of the lead
developer:
https://plus.google.com/+GillesCaulier/posts/L2Q2ke8h6Ze
(I won't comment on the nature of said dependency: others have done a much
better job than me in said post)
Now, I know that Digikam is in extragear and is not part of any of the major
KDE software releases, but I'd like, as distro person, to outline that post as
a perfect example of bad communication.
Ideally I'd like to know about deps in advance (and the post informs about it,
so, good) but without having to hunt the developers' personal communication
channels (very bad).
TL;DR: if KDE contributors develop software, please ensure to inform
distributors about changes in the appropriate channels (kde-distro-packagers,
release-team).
Now back to our reglarly scheduled programs.
