How to sort albums by name?

I've noticed that in versions 9.0 and 9.1 that I have trouble sorting albums by name.

This is strange, because it used to work well. I've checked the documentation, and the process described there to invert the display order no longer seems to work for me.

What is most irritating to me is that it makes it much more difficult to work on a project relating to World War 2, which has more than 60 folders and 1350 files. The base data are scans made over the past ten years of archived prints and negatives from my family's history.

The folders are structured in a tree with YYYY MM DD description. Sub-folders are similarly named with Developed v1 and Developed v2 appended to the description. What I want is easily to locate images within each group.

I thought I could force the issue by individually changing the album date from the creation date to the earliest date of the folder name. This improved the situation a bit. However, what I got was 1941, then 1945 with months ascending, then 1944 with months ascending, then 1943 and 1942.

This seems strange to me.

I wonder what I need to do to get the album display to look and act more like Windows Explorer, which does what I want and expect.
