Exiftool not available

I just got a new computer running Windows 11 and tried to bring up 
digiKam 8.8.0, and it complains about Exiftool not being available on my 
installation or not working properly. I've downloaded the latest 
Exiftool and the metadata settings in digiKam recognize it (has a check 
mark), but I continue to get the error when digiKam starts. This seems 
to crop up every now and then; anyone have any clues how to resolve it?
