Dates missing from my digiKam database

Hi all, 
Since the missing dates affect digikam's functionality quite a bit, is there a 
safe way to fall back to an earlier state (e.g. via an AppImage), without 
compromising the databases?

(I just re-subscribed to the mailing list for this topic, - for this mail, 
I've just copied the Subject w/o an actual reply - hope that's fine)
