What exactly happens when you "repair hidden items"?

Repairing hidden items only dissolves groups if group members have been 
copied/moved across different albums in the meantime. Otherwise, it would be 
almost impossible to find the group leader to display the hidden item.
It also repair broken item versioning that occurred due to code errors in 
older digiKam versions.
