hidden digikam activity?

 From time to time, I see digikam is using cpu and doing i/o, even 
though the status bar indicates there is "no active process".  The only 
thing I can think of is that the DB is doing something in the 
background.  In any case, if I open Windows Process Explorer, and select 
the digikam process, I see all image directories listed in the bottom 
panel, as well as the db files, and lots of other stuff.
