Heirarchical tags

Right-click in the window on the right side of the screen listing tags (Captions/Tags).  That will bring up a menu with a number of entries; scroll to the last entry (Toggle Auto).  This brings up a sub-menu that allows you to select "Parents".  Once you do so clicking any tag will automatically select all its parent tags.

Well I'm glad you have found it, because I have singularly failed to find it, even after resorting to searching the manual. Please give me a bit more of a clue. --  Cheers IAn MAc

There exists a switch in Digicam to enable this behavior.  Try a right click on the tag tree. I do not remember exactly…

I use a nested series of heirarchical tags, often four or five layers deep.  Is it possible to instruct DigiKam so that if I tag the deepest layer the others will be added automatically?
For example, I use a zoological classification tag set for wildlife photographs.  For a photograph of a gull, the heirarchy looks like this:
Animals -Birds --Non-passerines ---Charadriiformes ----Laridae -----Larinae
Currently I have to tag each of these separately even though they are arranged as a heirarchy in my tag list.  Ideally I would like to be able to check "Larinae" and have all of the parent tags added automatically (one tick instead of six in the tags list).  Can this be done?
  Thanks
