How to move computers?

I'm planning on getting a new laptop and want to make sure that I
don't screw up!

My current setup is linux with the dk8.5.0 appimage.

* The db is on the local ssd.
* the images + xmps are on an external usb toaster hard drive (fully
  backed up).

The new laptop will also be linux with the dk8.5.0 appimage. It will
be a 2 step process:

1. new laptop (this/next week)
2. new usb-c external ssd during the next black friday sale.

* The db will on the local ssd
* the images are on an external usb toaster hard drive, then
  eventually moved to the external ssd.

I was thinking of:

1. deleting all the xmps from the images
2. getting to rewrite all the xmps.

this is to delete a lot of crud that is in the xmps that were
also written by other apps that I haven't used in years.

A: is this feasible?
B: what about storing the DK configs?
