Scan Collection for Faces - Scan New Scans All?

Hi - I'm running DigiKam 8.7.0 on Windows 10.

After downloading and installing DigiKam, I added a bunch of image files to
my library and ran Scan Collection for Faces with the Scan New Images
option set.  Once the initial scan was complete, I changed the setting to
Recognize Faces Only and tagged images with people's names.  Facial
recognition worked as expected, DigiKam went through its cache of already
detected faces and added people tags as appropriate.

I then added more albums to my library and set Scan Collection for Faces
back to Scan New Images.  Now DigiKam is rescanning every album.  I
expected it to just scan the new albums I added.

Per the docs (

seems like it should just scan the newly added items.  Did I misunderstand
this behavior?
