As the amount of compression that can be obtained for a given quality level 
also depends on the image *content*, you cannot predict the final size of the 
resulting file. This is independant of the digikam version, or operating 
system, btw.

That said, some testing with a file with a large amount of details should give 
you a ball park figure. Keep in mind that the pixel size also has a large 
influence on the final file size: making the image twice as large requires 4x 
as many pixels (but that's before compression...)
