What does "Sort items by face type" mean?

I'm using face tagging, and have the People tab open, with one person
selected. I have View -> Separate Items -> By Faces set - I think this is
the default.

What does View -> Sort Items -> By Face type mean?

The photo order changes, but I can't tell what order it's showing the
photos.
