Entire hard drive showing up in IMPORT

A true n00b question:
Running 8.3 on Windows 11.  When I click on IMPORT it pulls up my ENTIRE
3.6 TB external (D:\) hard drive, thumbnails only and no access to a
directory tree to refine my selections. And the only other menu options are
Google Photos and SmugMug - no help there.
There has to be a better tool somewhere, but I can't find it!
