digikam crashes while finding new items

Hi Ron,

Yes, it's known that HEIF can be problematic, especially under MacOS.
It's generally a problem in libheif and codec dependencies. Typically,
the format evolves quickly as plenty of features are present in the
standard, and phone software exploits the capabilities more and more.
So to check all cases in this library (that we don't maintain), it's a
big puzzle.

In all cases, please capture a Terminal trace of digiKam when the
problem occurs. Look instructions here :
