empty xmp sidecars for raw files

Anyone else having an issue with empty sidecars when initially tagging
raw files using xmp sidecars with Digikam?

Not sure when it started, I don't recall doing any tagging while 8.1 was
out, but it is happening with my 8.2 appimage version.

If I add some tags to a raw file that does not currently have an xmp
sidecar the tags don't get applied, but the sidecar file gets created (0
bytes). If I go and tag it again, then it populates the sidecar with the
data and all is good.

I have lazy writes enabled, and all tests are done after selecting to
apply pending changes to metadata. It seems if the file exists then
everything is good when making changes, but if the sidecar file does not
exist yet then it only creates a 0 byte file.
