printing photos from digikam with Ubuntu

This isn't specific to DigiKam, though ideally I'd print right from DigiKam
to my printer.

But what a pain that's been!  I'm running Ubuntu, and I have an Espon 7100
photo printer, and I can't believe how difficult it is to print.

Any recommendations for a printer that works well with Ubuntu, and even
better, allows me to print right from DigiKam?
