Digicam core dumps on start (Ubuntu 22.04)

I have been using dk for a year or two.  After a break of several months it no longer runs.
executable is digiKam-8.4.0-Qt6-x86-64.appimage
I get the messages below and a coredump.

Googling suggests there may be a problem with dk not working with Wayland, but I am not experienced enough to know how to fix it.
