And just for S&G, since I seem to be running something that calls itself 
kde, I installed and ram Kamosa. Got a blank screen, it can't see 
anything in /home/gene/Pictures but there is about half a terabyte of 
mixed, .jpg,s and .png's in that directory.

 From df:

/dev/md0p1     1796382580 279345756 1425711848  17% /home

WTH?  Is this a symptom of a bigger problem because /home is an 
/etc/fstab mounted raid10?

I sure would like to get this fixed.
