Digikam not updating preview after editing in darktable

Digikam is not updating the preview or thumbnail after editing in Darktable.

I’m using Digikam together with Darktable for editing raw ARW and NEF
files. These both have XMP sidecars. Any editing performed in Darktable is
written to the xmp sidecar.

It seems as if Digikam is not reading the updated xmp sidecar.

Is this normal behaviour, or is there a way to update the thumbnails and
previews in Digikam after the raw files have been modified?
