[digiKam-users] Errors in showing HEIF/HEIC images from Apple devices

Hi,
Modern Apple devices such as the iPhone 12 supports taking photos is so
called portrait mode[1][2].
This is a really neat effect that if used correctly can greatly improve the
quality of some type of portraits.
While digikam does indeed support HEIF/HEIC photos, it does not seem to
support them fully. For example, the HEIC files containing photos taken in
portrait mode will not display correctly in digikam. They look like image
files that were truncated too early - or not fully transferred. I have an
example below in which this can be seen. Please note the bottom gray area
that is missing from this picture.
Is this a bug in Digikam? How can I have Digikam show the image correctly?
