[digiKam-users] overlay selected metadata on preview and slideshow

I have upgraded from DK6 to 7.5 and went straight to view menu and
settings>view>  hoping I would find new ways to show metadata superimposed
onto full image (in preview,presentation,and slide show.
     I only find the switch under preview " Show Icons and text over
preview"
I find that filename is the only data to display in preview,slideshow,or
presentation
     I need preview sizing for decisions about tagging and for
presentations.  I also like having data like date and tags in an overlay
rather than on side panels for properties/tags etc.  These simple metadata
elements are often needed in technical groups where the audience needs both
full size and some chosen metadata.
     The thumbnails are blessed with overlay display of
date,filename,labels and tags... that blessing makes the absence in full
images all the more sad for group discussions.

Does anyone recall if this has been a common request for improvement of DK?

can anyone comment on how the existing code for overlay on thumbnails goes
some distance toward gaining that feature for full image(preview and
slshow)?

What are the skills needed to bring those thumbnail features into the
display engines for full images?
