[digiKam-users] How to add icons to albums?

Hi,

I have a lot of albums. Each sorted by year.

So I have a folder for each year and in that folder I have an album folder
for each photo session. Each album is named by the date followed by some
short description.
While it is possible to read the text and find the specific album, it is
somewhat difficult to do this quickly. Other photo management systems seems
to have an option to have album folders have an icon that is a thumbnail of
one of the photos in that album.
Is there a way to have DK do that same?

This is an example of the current view of such albums:

As you can see all the icons are plain anonymous folder icons. Could they
instead be something like this:

In this quick mock up, I just took a random image from each album and
resized it to 16x16 and put it in as an icon in Gimp.

Is there any way to do this in Digikam? Or achieve something like this?

It could also be an improvement if I could manually assign an icon for each
album, although that would be a lot of work...
