I'm not a Mac user, but a linux one and it should be similar. Digikam 
use the underlying system, albums are only system folders. So the local 
explorer (not digikam) may show something (logs?).

renaming is usually done like moving, it may be to a hidden file 
(.something in linux) or even an nother folder
