Hi,
yes, media management under MacOS is problematic. It's delegate to
KDE::Solid API which work fine under Linux, and is not too bad under
Windows.
For Mac, KDE::Solid has received while this summer a big patch to improve
the support, but change have been introduced in next 6.0.0, not 5.9.0.
You can make a try use pre-release beta MacOS installer available here :
https://files.kde.org/digikam/
But take a care, it's a beta which introduce changes in database not
compatible with 5.9.0. Do not use yet in production.
