DigiKam 5.8: AVCHD (.mts) video thumbnails missing

Dear Gilles and Andrey,
thanks for the quick replies.
I work with the DigiKam package which is distributed by KDE neon LTS 5.8 
(Plasma 5.8.8, Qt Version 5.7.1, KDE Frameworks Version 5.42.0) and not 
the AppImage.

In Dolphin the thumbnails (ffmegthumbs) of my AVCHD clips (.mts suffix) 
are shown and I could play the clips with VLC player.

Perhaps this helps to tackle the issue further on.
