DigiKam losing it's own information ???

Thanks so much !  Alas, when I right-click an album, I do not get a "refresh"
choice; all I get is "New" and "open in file manager"
Going to "Album > ReRead metadata from images" seems to do nothing.
Going to "View > Refresh" (F5) starts some kind of lengthy process, yet the
information is still missing.
