Displaying caption is already implemented in last 4.6.0 release
(options available since a long time through Setup Slideshow config
panel). It's work too with Showfoto.

Video is complex problem with slideshow. This doesn't work in some
situation due to limitation of KDE::Phonon widget. Can be perhaps
fixed with Qt5 port. See this report in bugzilla :
