Sorry for resurrecting this thread, but I believe this will save others'
time, should Google also lead them here.
If your digiKam does NOT have a "Geo-location" item in the Image menu, as
mine didn't, try installing kipi-plugins (if using a Debian-based distro).
It contains the GPSSync plug-in which is necessary to add geo-location data.
All other interface buttons are only useful to see already existing data,
and fiddling with them will not help.
