Depending on your system that might not have beenthe best way to go about
it:
If your (Linux?) installation uses a packagemanager (apt, rpm, etc),
manually removing files can put it in a state where it thinks a certain
package is present, while in reality a number of the files are missing.
That could make a subsequent install or upgrade go wrong.
As you give no information about your operating system and such, I can't
help you any further. I suggest you look around at your local university
for someone who can help you installing the required packages (which does
not need any knowledge specific to digikam or KDE).
