I did this, and it worked fine.  It transferred 999  NEF and 999 jpg 
files in about 15 minutes.
After transfering 999 files, it reported a duplicate file name.  I don't 
understand how this it's possible that there are two files on the camera 
with the same name.

gphoto2 works fine.  The problem is digikam's interface.
