[Digikam-users] How to update photo collections?

Yes I'm realizing that now, but I can't figure out how to get the 2.9 
installed.  The only one in the package manager (ubuntu 12.04) is 
2.4.1.  I don't understand why it is so far behind the current version....
I'm searching for another way to install it, but I'm not having much 
luck so far. :(
