[Digikam-users] Upgrading to 2.6.0 in Debian Testing: Database woes

Dear All,

I recently upgraded digikam to 2.6.0(-1) in Debian Testing. I am running the
database in an external mysql server (same machine). When opening the
application I was met with the error that the database schema could not be
upgraded to V6. The application eventually started - with an empty database.
I read up on the issue and proceeded to
1) create new (empty) databases
2) use the database conversion tool to move the database from the old mysql
databases to the new ones.
3) give the NEW database details to digikam in the settings.

This process "succeeded", but the application also asked to add albums!? I
added the old location(s). Digikam proceeded to SCAN that location rather
than linking it with the information that I expected to be in the database
... annoying, but I though it might actually be OK as I had set my old
installation to write meta data to the files ... BUT to my dismay I find
that only the tags had been written to the files and I lost all my captions
and descriptions ...

Questions
1) What is a proper way to transfer an external database using schema
version 5 to v6?
2) Why is digikam (when set to write meta data to the files) NOT doing so
for captions etc? (I verified this failure by exiftool ...

Thank you for any help.

Sincerely, Joh
