That's not a good message for me. It looks that digiKam is only for english speaking users, isn't it?
If I put a national characters into caption, it is properly written into XMP (UTF-8), but digiKam writes also IPTC and as it doesn't support (and will not: http://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=132244) UTF-8 IPTC, it writes mostly only '?' characters (instead of national ones). If I open the photo with another software, it always primary takes metadata from IPTC (if exists) and my IPTC is broken by digiKam. So it would be nice if digiKam give me a possibility not to write IPTC, if it cannot handle it with national characters.
Is there any other way how to enter national characters into metadata in digiKam? Am I missing someting?
Thanks a lot,
Martin

To forget only IPTC... no. You can only set digiKam to not write
anything in metadata, including Exif, Iptc, Xmp and Makernote. But
metadata manager is limited.
Look in setup/metadata page for details.
