Shouldn't you be retaining the original jpg file, and creating a pgf file for each edited version you create? And that should only be necessary if you need to reopen edited files for further editing. Simple edits, like a crop, might only need a jpg copy, but perhaps that's just complicating things.

These steps wouldn't be necessary if digiKam had non destructive editing, like Lightroom. Are there any plans for such a feature?
