Gilles;

With color critical work, particularly with large images, printers often use
a 'slice' along one of the white borders to embed a reference color key and
or a gray scale. The keys allow the printer to then compare the printed
output color key to a standard chart.

Embedding a key would be something like embedding the image title in a
border (except of course it would be a small slim image file).

Possibly one approach would be to utilize the 'Two Border System' currently
in place. The inner border could be the conventional thin white edge and the
outer border would then contain the color key(s) on one or 2 sides.
