"8 bit colour" is actually 8 bits for each of red, green and blue, isn't it? Therefore 30MBytes in your example, not 10.

10 Mega pixel image have a 10 mega bits size (and may be a little more
due to info management) when saved raw.
10 mega bits x the number of color bits per pixels of course (so 10
mega bytes if 8 bits colors)
