This makes sense for most cases, i.e. if you ship a final version, but if you 
ship a beta you have to offer the final release via online-update IMHO.

If Ubuntu as a rule only ships final versions then they already broke that 
rule by shipping beta5 thus they should take the consequences and issue an 
update to get back to the original rule, i.e. only offer final versions for 
production releases.
